Elusive

hidden in shadows
elusive truths lie in wait
on the quest for light

on the quest for light
paths to follow may deceive.
wrinkles in the soul

wrinkles in the soul
smoothed by promise of belief
hidden in shadows

sorrow unfolds

_ _ _ _ _

draw tight the blinds against the light
no illumination needed

to sit alone
in mournful desolation

I listen as the leaves unfurl
to flutter in the breeze

sounds echo murmurs of despair
residing in my heart

Conversation

i answered the phone
not expecting to hear YOU
on the other end

imagine my shock
as i listened to a voice
almost forgotten

at a loss for words
i sat silently, waiting
for you to hang up

Hope

photo credit © Laura Hegfield 2012

darkness surrounds me
overcome by the blackness
i recognise fear

forever present
prowling amidst pale shadows
gloom hangs overhead

i reach out beyond
straining to grasp light above
  glimmers of hope float
